Village offices will be closed on Monday, July 3rd and Tuesday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day. Please note that all tax payments due July 1, 2017 will be honored on Wednesday, July 5th, 2017. Have a great holiday!
The Village of New Paltz is pleased to announce the permanent closure of a portion of Huguenot Street, between North Front Street and Broadhead Avenue, for the purposes of protecting the historic stone houses and creating a more environmentally and pedestrian-friendly park area in our community’s National Historic Landmark District. The closure is effective as of today, June 9th, 2017. Thanks to Huguenot Historical Society for your hard work on this project!
The Village of New Paltz Office of the Mayor cordially requests your input regarding the community’s vision for the revitalization of downtown New Paltz. What makes our downtown the heart of where we live, work, and play? What can New Paltz do to better support this community vision?
Comments will be considered as the Village works with Historic Huguenot Street, SUNY, and the Town among other community partners to submit an application to Governor Cuomo’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI), a competitive grant opportunity which will award 10 different communities $10 million each to develop downtown strategic investment plans and to implement key catalytic projects that advance the community’s vision for revitalization. New Paltz will be competing with other Mid-Hudson communities to demonstrate our downtown’s great potential for transformation in order to earn the local Regional Economic Development Council’s nomination. More information regarding the DRI can be found here: https://www.ny.gov/programs/downtown-revitalization-initiative
Anyone who wishes to provide feedback — including wish-lists for future downtown projects — is encouraged to email comments to assistant@villageofnewpaltz.org with “Heart of New Paltz” in the subject. You may also submit written comments to the Clerk’s Office at 25 Plattekill Ave.
The application is due June 14th, 2017 so community members are encouraged to submit comments prior to that deadline. However, the DRI is an annual undertaking so input on the topic is encouraged year-round.
The Village of New Paltz Landlord-Tenant Relations Council seeks two new volunteers to serve as alternates; one representing Tenant interests (a tenant renting within the Village) and another representing a Neutral party (a Village resident who is neither a landlord nor a tenant).
The purpose of the Landlord-Tenant Relations Council is to advise, counsel, mediate problems and disputes, and to improve relations between landlords and tenants in our community. The LTRC meets once a month; no special background or training is required for this citizen-led Council.
Additionally, new volunteers are always needed to serve on the Village’s various citizen-powered boards and commissions, including the Affordable Housing Board, the Shade Tree Commission, the Historic Preservation Commission, the Planning Board, the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Environmental Policy Board, and the Board of Ethics.
To get involved, please send a brief letter of interest to the Clerk’s Office: assistant@villageofnewpaltz.org and/or clerk@villageofnewpaltz.org
